When we talk about Austrian football, attention is often focused on big cities like Vienna or Salzburg. However, the true foundations of sporting success and the development of young talents are often found in clubs with a long tradition and a stable community, such as VST Völkermarkt. Located in the beautiful surroundings of southern Austria, this club represents much more than a sporting collective. It is a symbol of perseverance, professional work, and a base that has produced quality footballers for decades.
VST Völkermarkt (Völkermarkter Sport- und Turnverein) is a club boasting a history of over 150 years. Although it began as a gymnastics association, the football section has, over time, become the most recognizable part of the club, positioning Völkermarkt as an important point on the map of Carinthia.
The heart of the club is the modern Lilienberg Arena. This stadium doesn't just host senior matches; it's a daily training ground for hundreds of children who dream of professional careers. With impeccably maintained fields and facilities, the club's infrastructure operates to the highest European standards, which is a key prerequisite for the proper development of young players.
What sets VST Völkermarkt apart from other clubs of a similar rank is their commitment to youth development (Nachwuchs). The club believes that its own football school is the most valuable resource, which is why significant funds and effort are invested in working with children.
At the VST Völkermarkt football school, the focus is not exclusively on the result, but on the individual progress of each player. The program includes:
One of the main goals of the school is to „produce“ players for the first team, which competes in the Carinthian League. This strategy allows young boys to experience the toughness of senior football already at 17 or 18 years old, which opens doors to higher leagues in Austria and beyond.
Thanks to its location near the borders with Slovenia and Italy, VST Völkermarkt often hosts and participates in tournaments that bring together the best teams from the Alpine-Adriatic region.
