When speaking of football in Bosnia and Herzegovina, especially in the Bosanska Krajina region, FK Rudar Prijedor represents one of the most important and recognizable sports names. Founded way back in 1928, this club is inextricably linked to the mining tradition of Prijedor and the Ljubija basin, which is proudly reflected in their nickname „Rudari” (miners), as well as in their club colors, green and black (which traditionally symbolize miner's bread and underground tunnels).

Rudar Prijedor wasn't founded as a project of modern investors, but rather from the heart of the working class and the passion of local miners for football. Throughout its almost century-long existence, the club has built a reputation as a „tough“ and combative team that never gives up, mirroring the difficult mining mentality onto the football field. During its time in former Yugoslavia, Rudar was a stable and highly respected member of the Second Federal League (West), where it regularly filled stadiums and played legendary matches.
